Knowing the difference between acute inflammation and chronic inflammation is critical. When we twist an ankle while jogging, the pain and swelling we experience is just your body’s way of working properly to induce you to protect that area so it can heal. That’s acute inflammation.

But prolonged period of internal stress that develops slowly over time, due to some combination of not getting enough sleep or exercise, a nutrient-poor diet, stress, foreign invaders like bacteria and toxic environmental causes like viruses and air pollution? That’s chronic inflammation, and it can cause the body to continuously overreact and actually cause damage, instead of repairing itself. Our body’s systems can and often do affect one another, for example, a nervous system exhausted by extensive stress can negatively impact your digestive system to cause issues ranging from generalized stomach pain to a more severe situation, like irritable bowel syndrome.

That’s why you have to take a holistic look at all your body’s systems. I hope I have provided a good plan of action to bring your body back into harmony and ease.

Be kind to yourself, and think about incorporating, into your life at home, the same practices you’d encounter at a spa. Different forms of gentle exercise like stretching, walking or yoga. Nourishing yourself with healthy meals to properly fuel your body. Consuming plenty of water for proper hydration and detoxing. Getting plenty of sleep to aid in cell regeneration.
