THREE WAYS TO CURB YOUR TOXIC INTAKE:
Give your lungs, liver and kidneys a break. Filter toxic substances out of your environment!
• AIR: The cilia in our lungs are capable of handling dust and everyday pollutants, but large amounts over a long time can cause chronic bronchitis. If you’re worried or have sensitive lungs–an air purifier equipped with a charcoal filter is a worthy investment.
• WATER: The biological processes that expel toxic waste from your body depend on an adequate supply of water to function. But if you’re concerned about metals like lead in your drinking water, spring for a water test, or check your municipality’s Consumer Confidence Report, or CCR. This data must be reported to the EPA every year, and it is accessible online. If anything in the report concerns you, buy a water filter.
• GLASS: A 2018 report showed that 90% of bottled water contains microplastics. Mounting evidence suggests that plastics containing bisphenol A, or BPA, can leach into foods. The health consequences of this exposure–and the body’s efficiency at processing these intruders–isn’t well understood yet, but it’s troubling at least, and the problem is growing. Using glass for water bottles and food storage containers isn’t just good for the environment it’s good for you too.
